According to my friend Achu in Bangalore, "Durga Devi is a very powerful goddess. As a goddess, Durga's feminine power contains the energies of the gods. Also each of her weapons was given to her by various gods. She is has another name called 'Shakthi' which means power. Indians celebrate a Durga festival called 'Navarathri'. Nava means 9 and rathri means night, so Navarathri is 9 days festival."
