First Hurrican Floyd hit the east coast, causing millions of people to evacuate. Then an insane gunman entered a church in nearby Fort Worth and started shooting people. We're being attacked from all directions. I'm not sure how this worked out, but this week we have a song about the blessed hope we have in death because of Jesus Christ. I live in a suburb of Dallas called Plano, and our metropolitan area has been hard hit by violent crime. Several years ago a man abducted a little girl from a busy park here in Plano and murdered her. Her name was Amber. Later on a law, known as the "Amber Law", was passed requiring radio stations to broadcast information when a child is abducted. So far, these radio broadcasts have helped in catching one kidnapper, and recovering the child safely. About two weeks ago, two ladies in the Dallas area contacted me about writing a song. One was the grandmother of another murdered child. The child was named Amy. The second lady has created an organization to help families of murdered children. They wanted a song for Amy. Now this is not an easy thing to do, but Larry Holder and I thought about it and came up with a song. Here are the lyrics... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "You're At Peace In His Love" (Verse 1) I recall the day Jesus called you home, And He set you free from all the hurt and pain. Now you live with Him In joy that never ends, And one day I know I'll join you there And see you once again. (Chorus) Though for now you're gone, It is just a little while, Till the Lord gathers all up above. As I think of you now, There is comfort and a smile; You're at peace In His love. (Verse 2) When you left that day, We had to wonder why -- Still so many things we do not understand. But we trust in God Who makes our lives complete And by faith we carry onward, For our lives are in His hand. (Repeat Chorus) Though for now you're gone, It is just a little while, Till the Lord gathers all up above. As I think of you now, There is comfort and a smile; You're at peace In His love. (Verse 3) With the angels you sing In your new-found home, To the One who will dry every tear. One day we will join The chorus up above. We shall all be reunited, And the night shall disappear! (Repeat Chorus Two Times) Though for now you're gone, It is just a little while, Till the Lord gathers all up above. As I think of you now, There is comfort and a smile; You're at peace In His love. (Ending) You're at peace In His love. Copyright (c) 1999 by Elton Smith and Larry Holder - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - We always try to write songs that are useful. Maybe this one could be used at a funeral. I'm not sure. But here it is and we pray that people will be blessed by it. The song is currently featured on Songs of Praise. From the song page you can go to the "Amy Robinson Memorial" and "Crusade For Compassion". Please send these ladies some encouraging email. Yours in Christ, Elton Smith http://songsofpraise.org
