Hannah was married to an Israelite man, a Levite named Elkanah. They had no children and Hannah was very sad. The family went to Shiloh to worship and Hannah prayed for a son. She promised to return him to serve the Lord. Her lips were moving, but no sound came out and Eli the priest thought she was drunk. She told him her story. He told her to go home and in time she would have the son she desired. Now Hannah was happy. She did have a son and named him Samuel. She kept her promise and took him to live with Eli the priest. Every year Hannah took Samuel a new robe to wear.
