		Elizabeth was married to a priest of Israel named Zacharias. It is said of them that they were righteous before God. They were quite old and had never had children. They had prayed for years for God to send them a child. One day Zacharias was serving in the temple and the angel Gabriel appeared to him. He told him they would have a child and he was to be named John. Zacharias did not believe the words of the angel. Because of his unbelief he would not be able to speak until the baby was born. During her sixth month Elizabeth was visited by her cousin Mary. The Holy Spirit revealed to her that Mary was going to be the mother of Jesus.
