Johnson became President of the United States when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. People were protesting because of a lack of civil rights. Johnson when he was President worked to secure voting rights for all people. During his presidency Americans were fighting a war in Vietnam. It was an unpopular war and many people protested. Many young men burned their draft cards and moved to Canada. Lyndon's wife was named Lady Bird.
