Christ Is Christmas

Growing up, I remember my Dad being aggravated over the commercialization of Christmas and the lack of focus our society placed upon Christ being the only real reason for Christmas. That sentiment is now echoed in me, as with each passing year I struggle with the same aggravation of a society that focuses on food, fun and family, and yet ignores the gift of God. The message of the Gospel is "good news." And that's what Christmas, and this song, are all about. That God loves us so much, that He gave the greatest gift of all. I wrote the words in 1992, just a few days before my Dads December 24th birthday. He really liked the message of the lyrics. Sadly, he passed away in 1995 and never got to hear this song, he would've liked it. So this one is for my Dad, call it a birthday present. Merry Christmas to all, and Happy Birthday to Jesus and my Dad. - Russell, November 30, 2002

I am inspired by Russell's lyrics. Rarely flowery or flowing with poetic beauty, his lyrics are simple, direct and from his heart. I was especially moved by the simple, yet powerful message of "Christ Is Christmas," because it reminded me of when I first came to Christ 30 years ago. Coming from a Jewish background, it was God's giving nature, expressed in the Gospel of John, 3:16, "God SO LOVED the world that He GAVE us His Son..." that drew me to Himself. May this song's simple, yet profoundly beautiful message of God's great Gift, cause you to draw nearer to Him this holiday season! - Steve, November 30, 2002

Lyrics

(Introduction for 9 measures)

(Verse)
Lo, in a manger He lay
While all around the world He made
Stood in awe and so amazed
At the gift God gave.

King, who was and who is
For me and you became a slave,
Died and rose up from the grave
That you and I might live.

(Chorus)
Christ is Christmas
No greater gift you'll find,
Christ is Christmas
God's gift to all mankind.

(Repeat Verse)
Lo, in a manger He lay
While all around the world He made
Stood in awe and so amazed
At the gift God gave.

King, who was and who is
For me and you became a slave,
Died and rose up from the grave
That you and I might live.

(Repeat Chorus)
Christ is Christmas
No greater gift you'll find,
Christ is Christmas
God's gift to all mankind.

(Bridge)
Though rich or poor
No greater gift you'll find
Than the gift of God's own Son.
The chains of sin,
The wrath of death and hell,
Through His gift are all undone.

(Repeat Chorus 3 times)
Christ is Christmas
No greater gift you'll find,
Christ is Christmas
God's gift to all mankind.
Christ is Christmas
No greater gift you'll find,
Christ is Christmas
God's gift to all mankind.
Christ is Christmas
No greater gift you'll find,
Christ is Christmas
God's gift to all mankind.

Mike.2007-12-06I think the message is real and very touching... however, musically i find it makes no sense, the chord progression is a little spooky at times and doesn't reflect what the song wants to say.
