This coin was an experiment by the US government to make coins for the states. In 1787 Congress passed a resolution authorizing minting of cents, and specified that the coins have similar features to the 1776 Continental Currency notes and coins... the word "Fugio" (meaning "I fly" in Latin and referring to time passing), a sundial, Benjamin Franklin's phrase "MIND YOUR BUSINESS", and 13 linked rings around the words "UNITED STATES" and "WE ARE ONE".

I bought this coin in 1989 at the Early American Coppers club meeting in Cincinnati.
