Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States was born in Plains, Georgia. His father was a farmer and his mother Lillian was a nurse. He was raised on the farm and required to do chores with all the other members of the family. There were no antibiotics available at that time and home remedies were used. He was an entrepreneur from the time he was a young child, and with the help of his parents started businesses. He attended Annapolis, the naval academy, and became a naval officer. He returned to the farm when his father died. After he became governor of Georgia, he was elected President of the United States. During his presidency he helped countries learn to get along better, and continued this diplomacy after he left office. He and his wife Rosalynn are active working with Habitat for Humanity.
