Christ Is Christmas

Growing up, I remember my Dad being aggravated over the commercialization of
Christmas and the lack of focus our society placed upon Christ being the
only real reason for Christmas. That sentiment is now echoed in me, as with
each passing year I struggle with the same aggravation of a society that
focuses on food, fun and family, and yet ignores the gift of God. The
message of the Gospel is "good news." And that's what Christmas, and this
song, are all about. That God loves us so much, that He gave the greatest
gift of all. I wrote the words in 1992, just a few days before my Dads December 24th
birthday. He really liked the message of the lyrics. Sadly, he passed away
in 1995 and never got to hear this song, he would've liked it. So this one
is for my Dad, call it a birthday present. Merry Christmas to all, and Happy Birthday to Jesus and my Dad.

I am inspired by Russell's lyrics. Rarely flowery or flowing with
poetic beauty, his lyrics are simple, direct and from his heart.
I was especially moved by the simple, yet powerful message of "Christ
Is Christmas," because it reminded me of when I first came to Christ
30 years ago. Coming from a Jewish background, it was God's giving
nature, expressed in the Gospel of John, 3:16, "God SO LOVED the
world that He GAVE us His Son..." that drew me to Himself. May this
song's simple, yet profoundly beautiful message of God's great Gift,
cause you to draw nearer to Him this holiday season! - Steve, November 30, 2002
