Gilberto and I wrote this Christmas song in 1996.
It has proved to be very popular and has been sung by several churches at Christmas.
In February 1998, John and Elizabeth Tolson in Scotland created
the piano music score linked below. It should be a lot easier to play now.
This song is part of our Christmas play, The Perfect Gift.
- Elton, February 1998.
(Flute/cello introduction)
(Verse 1)
In the town of Bethlehem a child was born
Of the line of David, born to be a king.
An angel came to shepherds in the fields nearby
And this is what he said,
(Chorus 1)
For unto you is born this day,
A Savior who is Christ the Lord.
For unto you is born this day,
A Savior who is Christ the Lord.
(Verse 2)
This will be a sign to you you'll find the child
In a humble setting wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Suddenly a host appeared all praising God,
And this is what they said,
(Chorus 2)
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
(Verse 3)
The shepherds hurried to the site and found the child
With his loving parents lying in the hay.
They told all of their friends about the joy they'd found.
And how the angels said,
(Chorus 1 Again)
For unto you is born this day,
A Savior who is Christ the Lord.
For unto you is born this day,
A Savior who is Christ the Lord.
(Chorus 2 Again)
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
In the town of Bethlehem a child was born
Born to be our king.
